By Geddy Cahoon, the Sovereign

Hello all, and welcome to the first of what I hope to be a weekly feature here at ol' Poordecisions.com.com, Fan Art Friday! I'm an aspiring artist, and as such I tend do draw a lot of my own original characters. However, I'm not opposed to drawing fan art. Fan art is a great way to express your love of a character or series, as well as putting your own unique spin on it.

I'm not a huge Dr. Who fan, but I do LOVE the overall design and aesthetic of the Daleks. The Dalek is a fantastic balance of weirdness and simplicity, and plus robots are cool. In honor of our resident Eyebrow Overlord Tom, I decided I'd kick this feature off with some Dalek fan art. It's one of my personal favorite pieces of fan art that I've ever drawn.

So what are you waiting for?! Hit the jump and let's get the inaugural edition of Fan Art Friday started! EXTERMINATE!

This piece was drawn on my laptop using Adobe CS Profesisonal After Effects... Professional. As I said, I'm not a big fan of Dr. Who but I'm crazy about the Daleks' designs. I only had to look at a photo of a Dalek for like 20 minutes to nail the look I wanted.

My favorite Dr. Who episode would have to be the one where Dalek takes two dates to the same dance.

I think I succeeded in putting a slightly more grounded spin on the standard Dalek design. The shading was tough to get down and I couldn't quite get the wheels right, but practice makes perfect!

With careful practice you'll be drawing your own Daleks in no time!

So thanks for checking out the inaugural edition of Fan Art Friday. I'll hope to post a new one each week. Be sure to email me (Hahahahawhy@Yahoo.com) or leave a comment with any criticisms, compliments or thoughts you may have on my pieces.

By Tom Cuthbertson, Whom Geddy is Trying Desperately Not to Make Fun Of

Well, since this is supposed to be a space where we can write about anything, here goes. In the last week or two, I've become somewhat fascinated with the world of... fanfiction. Specifically Doctor Who fanfiction. Specifically Eleven and Clara fanfiction. Yeah. Rest assured I'm wrestling bears daily to keep my man levels in check.

Anyway, what I really want to ask is that if any fanfiction writers happen to be reading this, and are awesome, they wouldn't mind sharing a few pointers in the comments section? Especially if they fall into either of the aforementioned categories. In which case, for God's sake man, critique me hard! If not, as you were.

If you enter the Nerdosphere in this post, you'll find a small extract of a chapter I just wrote, hopefully the first of a lengthy story, as well as a link to the actual thing.

Well then, until next time,

P.S. I promise I'll let someone else do the next post.

P.S.S. I just found an American dime/nickel whichever one is five cents. Y'all have heavy coins.

Extract:

"The Doctor's train of thought was halted by Clara, who had returned clad in a red Punkyfish hoody, one that he quickly recognised. "This'll do", she stated approvingly as she made her way over to the console, next to the suddenly sullen Time Lord. "It's warm, and I quite like it! Don't you?" She nudged him intently when he took more than a moment to reply.

"Yes… I always did", the Doctor reminisced, barely able to look at it. "It belonged to a friend of mine from quite some time ago. Didn't know it was still around…"

Clara's cheerful expression barely changed, though she couldn't say she enjoyed the reference to one of the Doctor's previous female friends. "Oh", she expressed summarily. "Was she nice?"

"Yes", the Doctor replied, managing a smile. "She really was".

"Was she around for long?" Clara asked, sliding herself closer to the Doctor.

"Yes… I suppose it was a while, yeah".

"Good snog?"

The last question was enough to snap the Doctor out of the half-daydream he was in as he took an uncomfortable step back from his companion. "Clara, please!" he responded sheepishly, a sad, light blush in his cheeks. "I don't really want to talk about it".

The cheeky grin on Clara's face faded into a rare serious expression, her insecure side taking over as she again closed the distance between herself and the Doctor. "Okay, but answer me this", she told him, delicately turning his head to make his eyes meet hers. "Am I just here to fill a void?"

The look on the Doctor's face changed from discomfort to sadness to caring. "No, you're not" he said truthfully, keeping her gaze while taking one of her hands in his own. "We talked about this; you're not here to replace anyone. You're unique".

By Tom Cuthbertson, M.D.

The smark. Definitions for the term smark vary; some consider the smarks "fans who know wrestling is choreographed but appreciate it on a higher level", while others consider the smarks "sports entertainment fans who are hardly ever satisfied". When these so called 'smart' wrestling fans gather en masse at a live WWE event, like the crowd we saw assembled last night on Raw, they have the power to either enhance or tarnish the show, depending on which parts of the smark culture they emphasize. Let's briefly look at what smark crowds, for better or for worse, can bring to live shows. And just for fun, I'm going to borrow Daniel Bryan's trademark YES and NO chants to help me.

Yes!: Smark crowds bring excitement

No matter what they're chanting, smark crowds are always loud and proud. Not to sound cliche, they never fail bring an air of energy and excitement to an arena. Unfortunately, this is not a universal skill, as shown by the shamefully silent crowd during the last hour and a half of Wrestlemania. For whatever reason, those fans just would not get hyped for the main events at the show of shows. You will never, ever hear that type of indifference from a smark crowd, and it's arguably better that way. Regardless of what they're chanting, it's better than crickets, right?

No!: Smark crowds can ruin storylines

Pretty much all smarks subscribe to dirt sheet websites on the Internet that give them an insight into upcoming storylines, returns, surprises etc, which can effectively kill the tension at a televised event. The prime example of what I'm taking about happened just over a year ago - the return of Brock Lesnar after eight years away from the WWE. This could have been an awesome moment, but the smarks who were anticipating it ruined the moment with a loud and clear "We Want Lesnar" chant in the middle of a Cena promo. You could tell Cena was getting pissed off with the fans in attendance for ruining the surprise for those who stay away from the dirt sheets, not to mention crapping all over his work, and I don't blame him. Sure, the crowd popped when Lesnar finally came out, but the tension was dead for everyone at home, the surprise spoiled for everyone who was unaware, and a great moment tarnished for the entire WWE Universe.

Yes!: Smark crowds aren't traditional

What I mean by 'not traditional' is that smark crowds don't automatically cheer every face and boo every heel, they don't automatically get behind every meathead and reject every high-flyer. Could you imagine how different the roster would be if that was the case? Not only would guys like CM Punk and Daniel Bryan not be on top right now, but guys like Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart wouldn't be fondly remembered as legends today. Smark crowds have an eye for quality in the talent, and don't necessarily buy into the hype for guys that WWE wants to push, which has a positive effect on the state of the entire roster.

No!: Smark crowds have their own value consensus

In Layman's terms, what this basically means is that just like the WWE has been criticized for favoring big, freakishly strong men as their top stars, smark crowds can themselves be criticized for having a preference when it comes to talent. That's fine, but a smark extremist will tell you that this means there are people you are not allowed to like and people you are not allowed to hate. Sometimes, this mentality can show itself in a smark crowd, where it's not acceptable to cheer for anything Randy Orton does, but smark buzz terms like 'ECW', 'RVD', etc can get chanted with no prompt whatsoever. Bottom line, they may not blindly subscribe to what the WWE is saying, but there's seemingly still a lack of individuality about smark crowds.

So there you have it, a brief look at smarks in your typical wrasslin' crowd. Hopefully this small piece will get you thinking for yourself about how smarks impact live events, as well what they bring to a wrestling fanbase overall, both good and bad. As a thank you for reading this post, I leave you with this opportunity to indulge in your newest guilty pleasure:

By Tom Cuthbertson, M.D.

I very nearly posted my knee-jerk reactions to Wrestlemania when it went off the air at 4am. Which, due to be being naturally tired and a little cross, most likely would have been a... Poor decision. It sucked that I squandered an hour of sleep, but now, much like the A's in Fandango, my thoughts on Wrestlemania have had something of a chance to breathe.

So, what are my thoughts on Wrestlemania 29?

Up to and including the Undertaker/CM Punk match, it was going pretty well. The opener was vintage Shield with the group winning unexpectedly and looking like a million bucks doing it, which is nice. The Tag Team title match was solid, if a little short, and it was good to see Fandango win his match by capitalizing on a mistake by the veteran. The World Heavyweight title match was an enjoyable, back-and-forth contest, the match of the night until that point in the show, and neither guy looked especially weak coming out of it. Hopefully we can see a little more from this feud at Extreme Rules.

Really, my only gripe with the undercard is the Ryback/Henry match being booked terribly. This was built up as the most even matchup on the card, and not only does one guy dominate the whole match, but he goes over when he was the absolute wrong man to do so. Either this feud carries on to Extreme Rules, Mark Henry starts pursuing the World Heavyweight Championship, or I start making rage faces at my TV screen.

The Undertaker vs CM Punk was, to my mind, phenomenal. It was solid enough in the ring, despite more noticeable ring rust from Undertaker than in years past, but CM Punk made this match by being at the top of his game. How many guys have ever had the nards to start a match with Undertaker by slapping him square in the face? I don't care if he lost, that was a mark-out moment right there that affirmed Punk as the biggest and most dominant prick in WWE (As if the last nine months hadn't already done so). Oh, and Undertaker reclaiming the urn and crying at the end? Even after 21 Wrestlemanias, that felt like a genuinely special moment, and a fitting way to pay tribute to Paul Bearer after the last month of shenanigans.

Then Triple H vs Brock Lesnar happened. Remember how personal this feud was supposed to be? Remember the dastardly stuff Lesnar has done to HHH over the past eleven months? Remember that Raw when Lesnar smacked a steel chair so hard on the ramp that it nearly broke in half? Remember that HHH's career was supposedly on the line? NONE of this came out in the match. What was supposed to absolute bloodbath between two angry, angry guys turned out to be slow, lacking in intensity, and overall indistinguishable from their Summerslam match. I mean, the match itself was a good match for any other PPV and any feud, but this was a Wrestlemania match with a fuckton of intense buildup. You gotta pull out all the stops. Very few of the stops were pulled out. Consequently, it was evident that the two guys just did not care, which was disappointing and frankly inexcusable on a Wrestlemania.

Speaking of not caring... then came the main event. Oh my god, the main event.

Cena's music hits inexplicably following after a commercial. No announcement, no ringing of the bell, no promo video, no acknowledgement that there was supposed to be a match before this, not a single word breathed by the commentators, no manner of reaction by the fans in attendence, no nothing until the match started. No nothing. At a Wrestlemania main event. Raw main events have more excitement than that. This was a Wrestlemania main event WWE Championship match - featuring John Cena and The Rock no less - that half the audience was groaning at anyway, and in no way did anyone on commentary, in production, or in the crowd make any attempt to sell it or tell a story. We've just come off a match with two guys that clearly did not care enough, and not one person in the arena wanted to pick up the slack and hype this match? The same match that got a ton of hype last year? I'm tired, so the bold font is the only length I'll go to to demonstrate how cross and disappointed I am about this, but seriously. This is Wrestlemania, it's and inexcusable for one guy in the company not to be going batshit crazy hyping this event, let alone EVERY guy.

Well, I say every guy. Turns out the were actually two people that cared about this match, and they went on to give us a match befitting a Wrestlemania event that was actually tense at times. The Rock repeating Cena's mistake from last year and getting nailed by his own move. Cena faking out the People's Elbow and seemingly outsmarting the Rock, only to get hit with his third Rock Bottom on the match. The minute of constant AA and Rock Bottom counters and reversals. All these things told a story and added tension to the match, and damnit, that's what a Wrestlemania main event is about. Not fans sitting on their hands and commentators forgetting two years worth of history.

Overall, had anyone other than Cena and Rock cared about the last hour and a half of this show, it could have been a solid Wrestlemania. Alas, for whatever reason they stopped selling, so everyone understandably stopped buying, I think that's the essence of why everyone seems disappointed with this Wrestlemania. It was just 'good', and if you're not using words like 'great', 'excellent', 'magical' etc to describe a Wrestlemania, something, somewhere has gone horribly wrong.

You know, deep from the bowels of the earth where my home is located, I can already hear the whines and moans of the people not happy with how the big shindig went.

And to them I wanna say..... Oh...... Don't care. Because I'm the one writing this, my opinions the one that matters. In fact fuck opinions, these are Factpinions, and and you're about to get some all up in ya.

Here I'll present 13 points about WM. Why 13? 'Cause I make my own goddamn luck. And also I suffer from a rare genetic disorder where I was born with that many fingers and toes.

13. Fuck Canada

12. We Want The Funk: I was promised Tons of Funk vs Rhodes Scholars and two genetic mistakes. O but I guess Diddy was so much more important. Well, guess what? He uh.... He probably was.... I mean in general more people know who Diddy is.... And without him there would have been like 1 or 2 black guys on the entire show. What I guess I'm getting at is I'm not happy, but hell, I rarely am.

11. Actually 3 there were 3 black guys: Forgot Cousin Carlton on roids tagged with Ziggler, so... Yay diversity? I guess...

10. Letting the A's Breathe: I know everyone thought I was crazy for picking up on this gimmick, but hell. It's entertaining, and the match wasn't bad. Fandango's a bit green and working with Jericho will help that. His gimmick of a dancer getting shitwhipped for most the match makes sense.... How many dancers do you know that are good at fighting? For me it's one, and it was Patrick Swayze and he's dead, so why be a jerk like that and bring him up? You know you're a real asshole sometimes.

9. Intercontinentally Awesome: I'll give Miz some Dap for pulling out that Figure 4 the way he did. I've got a soft spot in my heart for that hold, and ever since I was a kid beating up other homeless kids in the streets of Tokyo I've used it.

Me, after another hard fought victory... I was 6, and that's a full couch

8. Feed Me Mo- Nope, I'm Full: I hope tonight is the end of the Ryback experiment. If I want a bad ass named Ryback beating people till they piss out of their ears, I'll put in my DVD copy of Under Siege and enjoy some quality time with Casey Ryback played by the incomparable Steven Segal.

9. Jesus, 13 points, who's idea was this? Ummmmmmmmmok, I got something I think let's try that again.

9. Woo Woo NO!: We get another PPV without having to see Zack Ryder or having to be reminded internet fans of pro wrestling exist. That alone made 'Mania worth the price of admission.

8.World's Widest Man: I love me some Mark Henry, and not just for the obvious reasons.

Daddy?

But he legitimately comes across as just ungodly strong, and despite all odds seems to make a connection with the crowd as either face or heel. Hell, he got cheered for tappin' Mae Young..let that sink in.

7. No, really think about that: Go ahead, his character has shockingly nonlethal sex w/ an 80 year old woman, and people love the shit out of him for it. I don't know what that says about wrestling fans...I'm just a guy sitting in a cave stealing Internet from a 7-11

6. Smarks: "HAYE ROCK DUDNT URN HIZ TITL AND HE DONT NEED 2 CUM BACK< CENA SUCKS TOOOO, WE WANT ZIGGLER"

Yes, that's how all of you sound in my head. I clearly don't like you. Hating the Rock is like hating a guest star on a tv series, it makes no goddamn sense. Him being there gets the product more attention, good on them, hell if he weren't around what was Cena gonna do? I'll tell you what, he'd have had a 5 minute match w/ Ziggler, or Sandow, or...fucking Akeem the African Dream, then gone home and fucked whichever Bella clone he's with on a pile of money. Only difference about tonight is he beat up on a big brown dude who's provided a lot of really great moments for us all.

So shove it up your collective asses.

5-4 Fuck you it's late and I have a job ya slackers: Zeb Colter has become the best thing going in WWE, the man does nothing physically, but can throw a promo together like you wouldn't believe. I say give Brock Lesnar to him, play up an Aryan supremacy angle, and ride off into the sunset on the hate pony that would be birthed from it.

3. Team Hell Naw: Since WWE has seemingly run out of tag teams, let's let Harlem Heat have a WWE run for abit. It's short term, but by God, I want some WCW love once in awhile, Stevie looked in decent enough shape, we know Booker is....... What's that? You say its only a bandaid....? well guess what? A bandaid's better than rubbin' shit in a cut.

2. Again, Brock Lesnar, nazi gimmick: Why hasn't this happened?

1. Ice, Ice Baby: Look, I dunno what they think they're doing, but this was the perfect opportunity to debut Glacier in WWE, either attack Cena after his win, or attack Taker and Punk after their match.....I'm just losing faith WWE knows what to do with Glacier at all.

Hello friends, it's the Canadian here just wanting to write a quick blurb about Wrestlemania 29.

I would like to be complete honest in saying I did end up missing the first hour...ish of the show as I had work, which apparently was the best portion of the show, but regardless, I feel like talking about the part of the show I did end up watching. I tuned in as Alberto Del Rio was walking to the ring.
***I would just like to point out that I love Ricardo Rodriguez as much as a fat guy loves Ice***
But regardless I knew the outcome of this match weeks in advance ever since Swagger changed his motto from "We The People" to "Weed The People." It was an o.k. match with two arguably better than average performers and kept me entertained albeit the ending being easily guessable. I give the match a 6.5/10

Next up we have CM.Punk vs Undertaker, all I can say is that even though I feel like i'm the only one, I did enjoy this match, it did have it's...moments....we shall call them, but however it felt right and Mr.Punkington did manage to talk alot of people into believing that he was going to end the streak, the current smark group i'm in on facebook was divided 50/50 on who would win (I hate you so much Psst).
All in all I thought this match was an overall good match quality of a C.M. Punk match. 7.5/10

Now we have Triple H vs Brock Lesnar. Picture yourself leaned over a table with your head on it while banging on it telling yourself you want the pain to end. That about sums this up.
.....3/10

Here we are, the main event, John Cena vs The Rock. It was ok.
6/10

And there you have it, Mr.Canadians overall view of what he watched. Overall it was a big "meh." It was really predictable from my standpoint and I felt enraged when I read that Mr.Sandow didn't grace us with his presence. I give the show an overall 4.5/10. Have a good night everyone!Poordecisions.com.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03422856147068486406noreply@blogger.com0
